Floating Suctions For Tanks

Floating Suction Unit (FSU), also referred to as Floating Suction Lines (FSL) is a device used in liquid storage tanks, typically in the oil and petrochemical industry, to ensure that the cleanest and purest product is withdrawn from the top surface of the liquid within the tank. It is designed to float on the surface of the stored liquid, such as crude oil or refined petroleum products, and collect the product from just below the surface. Floating Suction assembly can be installed in horizontal or vertical, above or below ground storage tanks.

 

The primary purpose of a Floating Suction Unit is to prevent the withdrawal of any contaminants or sediments that may settle at the bottom of the tank. When a tank is filled or emptied, sediments and impurities can accumulate at the bottom, and if a traditional suction pipe were used to withdraw the liquid, it could pick up these impurities. This can lead to issues such as product contamination, equipment damage, or reduced product quality.

 

 

 

 

 

Key components of Floating Suction Unit typically include:

Float: The buoyant portion of the unit that floats on the liquid's surface.

Suction Pipe: A pipe that extends from the float down to just below the liquid's surface. It's through this pipe that the clean product is withdrawn.

Swivel Joint: A connection that allows the FSU to move freely as the liquid level in the tank changes.

Weighted End: The end of the suction pipe is usually weighted to ensure that it remains just below the liquid's surface, even as the liquid level decreases.
