Considerations for Selecting Liquid Chlorine Loading Arms

May 11, 2025

Considerations for Selecting Liquid Chlorine Loading Arms

Liquid chlorine is a yellow-green liquid with strong corrosiveness and irritation, vaporizing into gas at room temperature. Inhalation of chlorine can cause severe poisoning, with intense irritating and corrosive effects. When mixed with other flammable gases in sunlight, it may ignite and explode. Since liquid chlorine vaporizes at room temperature, gas-liquid two-phase loading arms must be used for filling. It is advisable to avoid using hoses for the gas phase pipe to prevent safety accidents caused by hose rupture or leakage during filling. Therefore, material selection and sealing performance require special attention during model selection.

1. Material Selection for Liquid Chlorine Loading Arms

304 Stainless Steel: Commonly used for liquid chlorine loading arms due to its excellent corrosion resistance and stability. This material ensures the medium remains pure and uncontaminated.

Carbon Steel with PTFE Lining: Enhances corrosion resistance by lining carbon steel with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). This material combination is suitable for special media requirements, further extending the loading arm's service life.

2. Critical Sealing Performance

Ensure no leakage during filling. Key components such as rotary joints and flanges should use wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant reinforced PTFE materials with embedded stainless steel elastic frameworks to improve sealing reliability and pressure resistance.

3. Design Pressure and Temperature Range

Select appropriate design pressure and temperature ranges based on liquid chlorine filling requirements. The design pressure of liquid chlorine loading arms should meet filling pressure needs with sufficient safety margins.

4. Nominal Dimensions

Choose suitable nominal dimensions for the loading arm according to the tank truck's interface size and filling volume requirements. Common nominal dimensions for both liquid and gas phases are DN50.

5. Operational Control and Alarm Systems

Loading arms should be equipped with necessary operational control systems (e.g., pneumatic, electro-hydraulic control) and anti-static systems to ensure operational simplicity and safety.

Conclusion

Selecting liquid chlorine loading arms requires comprehensive consideration of multiple factors. Scientific and rational selection ensures the safety and reliability of liquid chlorine filling while extending the loading arm's service life.
