What is AdBlue?

AdBlue is a high-purity urea solution used in diesel engines equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. It is not a fuel or an additive but a consumable fluid that helps meet stringent emissions standards.
Composition:
32.5% Urea: A synthetic compound.
67.5% Deionized Water: High-purity water to ensure the solution is free of contaminants.
How It Works:
Injection: AdBlue is injected into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine.
Chemical Reaction: The heat in the exhaust converts AdBlue into ammonia (NH₃) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).
SCR Catalyst: The ammonia reacts with NOx gases in the SCR catalyst, converting them into harmless nitrogen (N₂) and water vapor (H₂O).
AdBlue is stored in a separate tank and consumed based on engine load and operating conditions.
It is essential for vehicles to use certified AdBlue products (meeting ISO 22241 standards) to avoid damage to the SCR system.
It is commonly used in commercial trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, and increasingly in passenger cars with diesel engines.
