Emergency Shear Valves

1-1/2" Emergency Shear Valve single/ Double Poppet are installed on fuel supply lines beneath dispensers at grade-level to minimize hazards associated with collision or fire at the dispenser. If the dispenser is pulled over or dislodged by collision, the top of the valve breaks off at the integral shear groove, activating poppets and shutting off the flow of fuel. Single-poppet models shut off supply flow.Double-poppet models shut off supply as well as prevent release of fuel from the dispenser’s internal piping.

The emergency shear valve is designed to be installed in locations such as gas stations that are prone to collisions or fires, and it must be able to automatically shut off the source of the medium in case of an emergency. When a gas pump is overturned due to a collision, the shut-off valve will automatically cut off the fuel passage to prevent danger. A single valve design can cut off the flow of oil supply, while a double valve design can not only cut off the flow of fuel but also prevent oil from spilling out of the internal piping of the gas pump.

 

The bottom of the emergency shut-off valve is connected to the concrete gas pump island through fixed rods and U-shaped bolts for safety. The inlet (bottom) of the shut-off valve has an internal pipe thread, and the outlet (top) can be equipped with internal threads, external threads, or a combination of connectors. Other options include a suction system shut-off valve with a normally closed secondary main valve to prevent oil from returning, and an inlet with external threads that can be connected to a secondary leak prevention system.

 

The emergency shear valve is a critical safety feature for gas stations and similar facilities, as it can automatically shut off the flow of fuel in case of an emergency, preventing potential hazards from occurring.
