Liquid chlorine is a yellow-green liquid with strong corrosive and irritating properties. It vaporizes into gas at room temperature. Inhalation of chlorine gas can cause severe poisoning, with intense irritation and corrosive effects. When mixed with other flammable gases under sunlight, it may cause combustion and explosion. Since liquid chlorine vaporizes into gas at room temperature, a dual-phase (gas-liquid) loading arm must be used for filling. The gas phase pipe should preferably not be made of a flexible hose to avoid safety accidents caused by hose rupture or leakage during the filling process.
