The safety distance between the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) loading arm and the tank truck

The safety distance between the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) loading arm and the tank truck is a critical factor in ensuring the safety of loading and unloading operations. These safety distances involve multiple aspects, including fire safety distances and equipment layout.

1. Fire Safety Distance

The safety distance between the LPG loading arm and the tank truck must meet the relevant fire safety distance requirements. The specific fire safety distances are as follows:

For a total storage capacity of less than 50m³: The fire safety distance between the LPG storage tank and external buildings should be at least 50 meters; the distance from the external wall of industrial areas should be at least 50 meters; the distance from residential buildings should be 40 meters; the distance from the roadside of highways, Class I and II roads should be at least 20 meters; the distance from Class III and IV roads should be at least 15 meters; the distance from overhead power lines should be at least 1.5 times the pole height; the distance from Class I and II communication lines should be at least 30 meters.

For a total storage capacity of 51-200m³ or a single tank volume of 20m³: The fire safety distance requirements are different. For example, the distance from the external wall of industrial areas should be at least 60 meters; the distance from residential buildings should be 45 meters; the distance from the roadside of highways, Class I and II roads should be at least 25 meters; the distance from Class III and IV roads should be at least 20 meters.

2. Equipment Layout

In the layout of the LPG loading arm and tank truck, attention must also be given to safety distance issues. For example, when different material loading arms are arranged on the same platform, the spacing between the arms may not meet the 4-meter requirement, but this can be addressed by staggering the layout to meet safety requirements.

3. Other Safety Requirements

In addition to the fire safety distances and equipment layout requirements, the driver and escort of the LPG tank truck must undergo professional training, pass examinations, and hold certifications. They must be familiar with the physical and chemical properties of LPG, the technical skills for handling LPG tankers and containers, safe loading and unloading operation procedures, fire prevention and extinguishing knowledge, as well as how to handle accidents.

In conclusion, the safety distance between the LPG loading arm and the tank truck should be determined according to the relevant regulations and standards, ensuring that loading and unloading operations are conducted while meeting these safety requirements.
